What to pray for according to the Bible

Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:

for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

WHAT TO PRAY

Thanks for leaders and for their salvation that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life

1Ti 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

1Ti 2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

1Ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

The salvation of Israel

Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

The peace of Jerusalem

Psa 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

Psa 122:7 Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.

Psa 122:8 For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.

Psa 122:9 Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good.

That the Holy Bible would have free course and be glorified

2Th 3:1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:

That preachers should be delivered from unbelievers and authorities

2Th 3:2 And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.

Php 1:19 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

Php 1:20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

Phm 1:22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

Rom 15:30 Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

Rom 15:31 That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea;

That the ministration of financial gifts might be honest and successful

and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;

Rom 15:32 That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.

For preachers to make it on a journey to minister to other Christians and preach

Rom 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

Rom 1:10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.

To see an individual Christian

2Ti 1:3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

2Ti 1:4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

To thank God for the liberality of other saints and to see them

2Co 9:14 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.

The Judaean saints were thanking God for the Corinthians and longing for them.

That Christians would be thankful for the gift bestowed upon preachers

2Co 1:10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

2Co 1:11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

To interpret so others can understand the preaching and the word of God

1Co 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

Pray for you and people in your church to interpret, for Bibles in divers tongues, for missionaries to learn new [earthly] tongues; that way also the word of the Lord may have free course and be published abroad.

For the Lord send forth labourers

Mat 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

Mat 9:38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

That preachers might have an open door to preach boldly and clearly

Col 4:3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

Eph 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Eph 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

Eph 6:20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

For the preachers / or you to come and perfect the saints’ faith

1Th 3:9 For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;

1Th 3:10 Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

.

The Lord Jesus Christ prayed for Peter’s faith:

Luk 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

Eph 1:15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,

Eph 1:16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

Eph 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

Eph 1:23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

That God would count believers worthy of this calling and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power, that the name of the Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in them and they in him

Php 1:11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

For believers to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding that they might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, increasing in the knowledge of God, strengthened by him to be patient and longsuffering with joyfulness, and to be thankful for their inheritance by the grace of God.

Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Luk 18:2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

Luk 18:3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
